The " restart " and install time is not the problem it is the time period when those updates are downloaded. If you have any tips on setting up a download time and not just by manually turning my computer on and off between the hours of 2am and 8am that would be great.

I have the Windows 10 Home, version I want updates to download automatically. Supposedly, updates in this Win10 version by default are already automatic which is fine with me. However, per a Microsoft Support article written Oct. I do not have Automatic recommended as a choice. Instead under Choose how updates are installed I see a check box with an option to Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows.
I'm not sure what these options mean. I don't want updates for other MS products and I don't know what part of the privacy policy MS is talking about. I just downloaded the most recent update but not the way I had expected.

Its possible that article was not properly researched before it was written. But updates otherwise are automatic by default in Windows 10 Home and there is nothing else for you to do. I think when I initially got this PC about six months ago I went through the settings and either put these times in not sure if I "explicitly enabled" them or if it was a default.
There is no way to set times at hours. When I click on Update History, I see that the new build was successfully installed on January 5 only because I manually restarted my PC that day as mentioned in my post.
Again, I had to manually restart my PC to download the update. Please let me know if you have any observations as to why this happened and suggestions for a fix. And thanks in advance for your reply.
Did you know that there are pending updates for this machine? Choose "Apply this fix" option below to start the update process in the background immediately. Note that when I opened Settings before running the troubleshooter, update status showed my device up to date.
The last update was downloaded on Jan. I applied the fix. The Download and install pending updates showed completed. Is there any significance to this message? Can you also please let me know what difference Patch Tuesday will make to the update issues I'm having?

In reply to CJ Harris23's post on January 6, Finding why this happened can sometimes be tedious but as this patch is not available for all and is rolling out slowly to selected devices might be related to this.
Can you try running Windows update troubleshooter once and then see if it reports any issues? Secondly, the things would be clearer this week when Patch Tuesday updates are released.
